Polkadot

As of today, Polkadot is officially permissionless! With the council elected, a governance motion was issued to remove the Sudo module, which was in place to allow the Web3 Foundation Team to make unilateral decisions about changes to the network to fix early bugs. With the Sudo module removed, the Polkadot network is now fully governed by its stakeholders.

DOT holders are also voting on whether to lower the apparent DOT price by increasing the total number of DOT tokens. A 100x increase, for a total of 1 billion total DOT tokens, is currently the most-approved option.

To help you keep track of the rapidly expanding Polkadot ecosystem, we’ve put together a list of projects.

Cosmos

Voting on the Stargate upgrade proposal is currently underway. The most anticipated feature of Stargate is delivering Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC), which will add cross-chain transactions and messaging functionality to the Cosmos Network mainnet. The introduction of IBC, the final milestone of the Cosmos whitepaper, will be one of the most important events in the history of the project.

The passing of this proposal will signal the Cosmos Hub’s willingness to move forward with the Stargate upgrade. We voted “Yes.”

You can read the full proposal here.

At the time of writing, voters are nearly unanimous in supporting the proposal

Ethereum

On July 10, the Ethereum research team held a Reddit AMA, giving a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the journey to Ethereum 2.0.

The AMA gave us some insight into everyone’s favorite Eth2 question: When? While researcher Justin Drake put forward January 2021 as the earliest practical Ethereum 2.0 Phase 0 release date, founder Vitalik Buterin disagrees, believing Phase 0 will be released this year, as expected.

Backed by Moloch DAO, Tanner Hoban and Tom Borgers of ConsenSys draw some interesting economic and security-related conclusions in their Ethereum 2.0 Economic Review.

Public attacknets maintained by the Ethereum Foundation are live. Anyone can receive a reward by successfully attacking these testnets. This is another important step toward launching Ethereum 2.0.

Kyber

On July 7, on-chain liquidity protocol Kyber Network announced the launch of its Katalyst protocol upgrade and the mainnet launch of KyberDAO, the governance organization of the network. As an incentive to participate in network governance, Kyber Network Crystal holders receive rewards in ETH for voting on proposals.

IRISnet

The global version of China’s Blockchain-based Service Network (BSN) has integrated its data centers with IRISnet, Tezos, Neo, Nervos Network, Ethereum, and eosio. This means developers on these platforms will be able to make use of the network’s services, such as data storage and bandwidth, from anywhere outside China. Chinese users of the network will remain limited to enterprise blockchains.
