A Guide to the stakefish Exit Message Download Feature
With this feature, users can download a signed message from stakefish and submit it directly to the Ethereum network in the future. This enables users to exit their validator at their convenience without the need to rely on the website or company.
Ethereum native staking is unique compared to other chains, requiring the validator keys to exit a validator and trigger withdrawal.
For staking as a service platforms, the staking provider controls the validator keys to run the validator service on behalf of the user. This process puts dependency and trust upon the staking provider to exit the validator when the user chooses to initiate an exit. While it is possible to share validator keys with users, the risk of a slashing event increases, and stakefish is unable to guarantee the quality of service to our stakers. As such, staking service providers like stakefish opt not to do this.
While this is the accepted practice among all the Ethereum staking providers, it is a compromise between ease of use and the ideal of non-custodial - in which users control the funds, by controlling when to exit. What happens when the staking dashboard is no longer available, or the company is unavailable to exit the message on the user's behalf? This provides the most angst for Ethereum stakers everywhere.
stakefish is a strong advocate for non-custodial staking and is always looking for innovative ways to improve our products' experience. We offered an “exit message” to institutional stakers, and wanted to extend this flexibility to retail users. In April 2023, stakefish became the first staking service provider to offer an “exit message” for retail stakers.
Feature Overview
In a normal validator exit process, the user requests an exit, and stakefish signs the exit message, submitting it to the Ethereum network for immediate exit. With this feature, users can download a signed message from stakefish and submit it directly to the Ethereum network in the future. This enables users to exit their validator at their convenience without the need to rely on the website or company.
How to use it?
Classic staking and Safe Wallet staking support the exit message feature. The feature is not available for NFT Staking because the NFT represents the ownership of a validator, and exposing the exit message is not aligned with the product.
To download an exit message for an individual validator, click view details.
Next, click “Request Exit.”
To download multiple exit messages, select multiple checkboxes, and select exit.
Click on the “Download exit message” tab.
You will get an exit message in a similar format:
You will be asked to download the message (in zip for multiple). Be sure to keep these messages safe for future use.
To broadcast the message, use an online broadcast tool like https://beaconcha.in/tools/broadcast.
Paste the message in the text box:
Your validator will transition into exit status.
Confirm the status of your validator by checking https://stake.fish/dashboard or https://beaconcha.in/.
Thank you for staking with stakefish.
